1914 – born in Riga, Latvia, on April 4th.
In October his parents went back to Dennhoff at Saratow with their children, where his father had a breeding place for horses, and where he spent his first years after being born.
1921 – He returns to Riga, the native town of his mother. After expropriation of their property by the bolchevics he attends primary school and gymnasium there.
1928 – 1930 He becomes an education degree as Technician of Weapons ( complying with the wish of his father, who did not want him to do military service ).
1930 – 1932 He studies architecture and graduates with Prof. Dr. Tode in Riga. In parallel he does his first studies of the Arts and Composition at Roman Sutta ( School of Petersburg, and College of Picasso ).
1933 – First scholarschip at the Arts and Craft School in Stuttgart ( with Professors Loercher, Heim, among others).
Studytrips to Mailand, Veneza, Florenz, Rome, Napolis, and Palermo in Italy.
1934 – he learns how to mold with gypsum and other materials, as trainee at the porcelain factory Jessen in Riga.
1934 - 1935 - He receives a full scholarship as the best student at Academy of Arts in Munich (education, materials, costs of living, as well as a monthly sum of money).
There he studied the art of sculpture and bronze cast with Prof. Bernhard Bleeker,
anatomy with Prof.Molliere, at the same time he studied psychology and
philosophy, also in Munich.
1936 - 1937 - Full scholarship at the college of applied arts in Berlin. Wood-sculpture and stone-sculpture with Prof. Kranz and Prof. Hitzberger, as well as study of the art of painting with Prof.Welte.A six week long journey to the World Exhibition in Paris, where he took the occasion to go to the studio of Picasso at Montmartre, where he became to know him.
1938 - He participates at a collective exhibition of the art community in Stuttgart. He returns to Berlin where he continues his studies and writes his first philosophical work “Sein” (=to be), which he had print at his own cost (without mentioning his name, as in his opinion is would have been against the political view at that time.)
1939-1940 - New full scholarship granted at the academy of arts in Stuttgart.
Masterstudent of Prof. Fritz von Graevenitz. There he receives his own atelier.
1941 - He becomes reporter of war movies at the Baltik film company.
After this he films at several war fronts, up to 1943. He becomes badly hurt and ordered back to Berlin. There he works at Marsfilm with Tummel Tummelovic (Baltic film company) as a film cutter and reviewer up to 1945.
1944/1945 - Atua na Marsfilm; de Berlim; como assessor artístico junto com o cortador-chefe da Baltik-Film; Tummel Tummelovic. Nova edição do livro filosófico "Sein"; com prefácio do pastor Vehm; da Holanda.
- Starts his own atelier „Werkstatt Widder“ in Schwäbisch Gmünd in Germany. Art sculpture and bronze cast manufacture. He is pictured in the book “600 years of goldsmithart” of Prof.Walter Klein, where 2 pages with pictures of his work and a half page description are printed. Review and editing of his philosophical work ”Sein”(=to be), this time with the approval of the responsible for Culture of the allied forces (printed by Remsdruckerei Schwäbisch Gmünd) and with certifications from: Pastor Wehm(Holland), Hermann Hesse, Ernst Wiechert and the lector of the printing house Reclams-Universal, Alfred Guenther (Author of: The seven unknown years of Shakespeare).

1948 - Collektive reading “Stuttgarter artists” at Arthouse Schaller. He creates the bending doll “Jopo” (together with a small childrens book in which the creation of Jopo is shown). He designs still other figures, develops a system to cast the figures, and gave it to his father in law at that time in order to have the figures made, Friedrich Schleich. Friedrich Schleich told him he would have the system patented in his (Tao’s name), but he actually had it patented under his (Friedrich’s) own name. In consequence it came to a disruption between both, and Tao Sigulda leaves the rights of licence to his own children, for their education, studies and later marriages. He leaves Germany.
1951 - Collective exhibition in the Hagenbund and in the„Pallais Harrach“-Vienna, Austria.
1952 - Study of architecture and indoor-architecture, decorations, in Graz, Austria.
- Opens own studio in Graben, in Vienna - Austria. He manufactures orders of art for collectors, individuals, and construction companies. He becomes a member of Artist Circle that meets at the ”Strohkoffer” in Graben,Vienna ( as Fuchs, Hundertwasser, among others).
He draws illustrations for a book about the “Submerged Atlantis” for a private academic in Vienna.
He designs a Towercity of the future, but does not hand it over to the public, complying with the opinion of a patent-lawyer who told him that if not everything is patented beforehand, his project would certainly be stolen.
The city was calculated for a height of 500 to 1000 meters. Some of the drawings still exist up to now.
The prime architect of Hessen at that time told him to go with the project to Brasil and to offer it to the President Juscelino Kubitschek. But when he and his wife finally arrived in Brasil, there was another president in place.
1957 - Return to Germany. Orders of various kinds, sceneries for theatres, sculptures, jewellery, and pictures in oil. He draws 750 illustrations from the Bible for Father Daschner, Stella Maris Stuttgart. (He marries his second wife –Tama).
1959 - Individual exhibition at the Galleria Senator, in Stuttgart and at the House of Arts, Ulm.
- Individual exhibition at the ”Galeria del Ponte” in Napoly Italy ( the display was bought entirely by the art collector Angelo Blasi ).
Journey by ship with his wife Tama to Brasil, with the intention to visit his family in Canada by stops in Chile, Argentina and USA after reaching Brasil.
But he receives orders from art collectors on board of the ship to Brasil, so they decided to stay in Sao Paulo.
1961 - Collective Exhibition at the Galeria Prestes Maia in Sao Paulo/Brasil.
1962/63 - Together with his wife Tama he establishes the „Small Theatre of Experimentation“ at PRO-ARTE in Sao Paulo.
It provides education for young people, stage presentations, stage sceneries, art works for collectors, jewellery in silver and gold ( individual productions)

1967 - He takes part at the “Saginaw-Fair” in Detroit/Michigan with 5 oil paintings: he is granted with the 1st, 2nd and 6th price as well as with “Great Seal of Michigan”
1968/69 - Studio and long term exhibition in Alameda Fernão Cardim/Sao Paulo.

1971 - He is awarded with the order for art decor of the church “Paroquia do Prociosissimo Sangue de Christo”( Church of the precious blood of Jesus) in Rio de Janeiro, ( international selection of the Vatican: Manzu/Italy - Chagall/France-Salvador Dali/Spain - Tao Sigulda/ Brazil. ). – Creates the calvaryway with a parallel to nowadays, as well as an abstract way that shows only feelings. The figure of Christ as winner, after his resurrection – floating over the altar (5,8 meters high), the figure of the Madonna (as symbol of one column of the church, 3,8 meter high), over her clothwrapped arm floats the baby Jesus already in cross form, indicating the way of the future. The main altar and the altar of the chapel, as well as both tabernacles, the baptize basin, the Eastercandle, the “eternal light” – the composition of all colored windows which were casted in antique glass, among other arts…

1974 - Exposition “Teuto Brasileira” at the Art Museum Sao Paulo (Ibirapuera region)
1975 - Own exhibition at the “Comgas” Hall / Gallery in Sao Paulo, where he shows for the first time a technique which he himself developed called “Alugravur” (surreal and abstract drawings made on aluminum plates using cold needle and steelbrusch, which sometimes are adorned with copper and brass figures).
Tao Sigulda becomes brazilian, using his artist’s name, following recomendation of the pertinent authority since his surname Steinbrecher is too complicated toi pronounce.
In the years between 1968 and 1987 he creates seventeen historical chessgames, where each figure is individually shaped; they represent the battles of the various centuries. One legendary game “Atlantis against the unknown invaders” plus two uncomplicated games. From the last two ones molds could be made (which was not possible for the previous games because of the complexity of each figure), and from these five games each were casted. All figures were casted in bronze out of lost molds, and are property of art collectors (in Europe and the Americas).

He executes the order of a bust of Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, modelled and casted in bronze, for the park of the city public library of the city of São Paulo.

Tao Sigulda was declared Honorary Citizen of the town of Campo Limpo Paulista in 1998, and Partner of Culture of the state of São Paulo.
2005 - at the age of 91 years he still worked on a sculpture course , with success and pupils coming from many different towns and cities of the state of São Paulo.
In October 9th 2005 happened a presentation of a well-known dance group from the city of Sigulda (at Riga, Latvia) in the open theatre space of his Culturecentre, with a lot of success.
He still finished two figures of women at actual grownup size.
Many of his paintings remained unfinished.
Two months before his 92nd birthday he said to his wife Tama: “If I am to finish everything that I still envision before me, I should be able to live for another hundert years”. A few days after he broke his hip at a fall, was operated successfully and died on February 10th 2006 in face of kidney failure. He departed in a very impressive way: newspapers, radios, tv’s, many friends and admirers gave him his last escort.
In his works he remains immortal.
Since 2006 Tama Sigulda, Tao’s widow, organized and realized eight collective expositions of contemporary art, together with art presentations on the open theatre of the Culture centre at every vernissage. Music, dance, choirsongs, folklore and theatre enhance these days. Following the wish of Tao Sigulda she continues his work, for which she lives and fights, as to realize his dearest desire, that the Foundation Culture centre Tao Sigulda continues to launch new talents to bring the arts to the knowledge of the public of the whole country. And she hopes from the depth of her heart that she will be able to accomplish this – with the help of givers, industries and culture institutions. She is currently working on her 49th collective art exposition.
The Tao Sigulda culture centre is located at aprox. 60 km from the city of São Paulo, at the border of Campo Limpo Paulista and Jarinu, a well known area for tourists from all over the world and very much visited.
